Our Heritage

Ab Whitney purchased the funeral home of S.T.Holmes and Son in 1943 and in 1975 re-sold it to Ross W. Ribey.  After his purchase, Mr. Ribey retained the Whitney name and called his funeral home the Whitney-Ribey Funeral Home.  In 2009, Mr. Ribey passed away.  M. Ruth Townsend, a licenced funeral director who had been employed with the funeral home since 1991, assumed the role of managing funeral director.  Ross' wife, Joyce Ribey, continued to operate the funeral home until November 1, 2011 when Sandy and John McGlynn assumed ownership.  Sandy and John changed the name to McGlynn Family Funeral Home and continues to offer families full traditional funeral services, memorial services of choice and preplanned funeral arrangements.

A major renovation of the building's interior took place in 1976 and in 1978 the funeral home was expanded to include the dining room and living room of the house.  In 1980 the parking lot adjacent to the funeral home was enlarged and in 1983, a new garage and storage area was built.  The selection room which offers a variety of caskets including fine hardwoods and steel, together with veneer select, rental and cremation units, as well as burial vaults, memorial cremation urns, vaults and keepsakes, was enlarged in 1984 and in 1986 an enclosed foyer-entranceway was constructed.

The McGlynn Family Funeral Home, which is wheelchair friendly, is tastefully decorated and capable of managing a gathering of up to about 200 people.  Carol Carter, a truly accomplished organist/pianist has been sharing her talent to enhance funeral and memorial services since 1979.

Sandy and John feel extremely blessed to have full support from their family and friends in maintaining an atmosphere where your family can feel comfortable and know that your wishes will be carried out in and respectful an dignified manner.
